About Emily.

Emily has 30 years experience in the mental health field. She began her career working in child welfare at The Methodist Home for Children & Youth where she was the director of the therapeutic foster care and adoption programs. In 2003, she transitioned to Coliseum Psychiatric Center, developing the Chemical Dependency Partial Hospitalization Program. Over the years as coordinator of the program, she developed a Psychiatric Partial Hospitalization Program and a Chemical Dependency and Psychiatric Intensive Outpatient Program. After 15 years at Coliseum (which is now Piedmont Behavioral Health), she decided to concentrate in private practice, using her years of expertise to help people in the outpatient setting.

Emily's specialities are Anxiety, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, and Substance Abuse. Emily uses a direct Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) approach with a strong component of mindfulness for all of her clients. However, Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) and/or Inference-Based CBT (I-CBT) is utilized to treat OCD. Emily is a SPACE (Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions) provider for parents of anxious children. Emily is also a Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist (CCH) and can use hypnotherapy for clients who feel stuck or have difficulty with emotional expressiveness.

Emily received her undergraduate Bachelor of Arts degree at Mercer University, double majoring in Psychology and Program in Service Learning (Human Services), and her Master of Science degree in Applied Psychology at Georgia College & State University. She has been a Licensed Professional Counselor since 2001. She is a professional member of the Licensed Professional Counselors Association of Georgia (LCPA), the International OCD Foundation (IOCDF), and the Association for Inference-Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Emily also provides supervision and consultation for other therapists in the area.

Emily has two young adult sons. She is a member of Mulberry Street United Methodist Church, where she has served on the Staff-Parish Relations Committee and volunteered at Macon Outreach. She is also a former board member and continued supporter of Macon Little Theatre.

Emily's primary location is in Macon, GA, but she also has an office in Winter Park, FL.

Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions

About Sarah.

Before becoming a therapist, Sarah spent years working in training and development, volunteering in ministry leadership, and serving as a foster mom. Through it all, one thing became clear: her passion is helping people grow and thrive. So, in mid-life, Sarah went back to school and earned her Master's Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Mercer University's School of Medicine. She is a member of the Georgia Association for Marriage and Family Therapy.

Now, Sarah works with individuals, couples, and families who are ready for things to feel different. Her clients come to her for all kinds of reasons: feeling stuck, navigating relational issues, parenting challenges, life transitions, or a general sense that something needs to change.

Sarah is working toward full licensure and will be practicing under the supervision or Emily Newberry, LPC, ensuring that her clients benefit from the combined support and expertise of both therapists. This process will be explained in detail during your free 15 minute consultation or at your first session.

Sarah is a systems-trained therapist, which means that she always considers the big picture--what's going on inside of you, and what's happening in your relationships and environment. She uses evidence-based approaches such as Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) with mindfulness, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and positive psychology. She primarily utilizes an attachment-based lens and a strengths-based focus to tailor a plan that works for you. Some of the work may involve turning down the volume on pain, while other times focusing on turning up what brings joy, purpose, and connection.

Clients describe Sarah as warm, collaborative, and direct--with a good balance of support and structure. She believes therapy should be both a safe place to land and a launchpad for real change. Healing, growth, humor, and constructive challenge are all part of the process.

Sarah especially enjoys helping parents and teens rebuild connection, conducting parent coaching, and supporting couples as they navigate conflict, disconnection, or transition. Sometimes her clients have to borrow her hope until they find their own--and that's okay.

Outside of the therapy room, Sarah is a wife of over 20 years, mom to two teens, a lover of good books and Steelers football. Workouts leave her feeling strong and she enjoys home design projects that drive her husband nuts.

If you're ready to do the work, Sarah is honored to join you. Please complete the counseling registration form if you are ready to get started.
